Catholic Charities “Handicapables” group held their Valentine gathering at the parish. This year St. Mary’s 7th grade students coordinated the event under the guidance of their religion teacher Ben Larson and with the support of class parents – Helen Hartnett, Holly Keiser, Cheri Mendoza and Jaqy Tobin. This outreach engaged the students in learning how we all have both handicaps and capabilities. It allowed them to think about ways they would welcome and serve as hosts to the guests. Plans for morning hospitality, Mass, lunch, entertainment, and handmade gifts were drawn up. During three class periods students prayed the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary for the intention of our Handicapable guests, decorated place mats, created heart shaped rosaries, wrote notes for each person, and created take home bags. Father Rick presided at a special Mass and Anointing of the Sick in Hofmann Center, and was assisted by our youth as lectors and song leaders. Class parents provided the yummy home-cooked lunch and all guests left with a raffle prize and goodie bag along with love, prayers and good wishes. Thanks to all who supported this wonderful event!
