The Mexican Christmas tradition of Las Posadas will be experienced by the students, teachers and parents of St. Mary’s School on Friday, December 17th, beginning at 9:30 a.m. The Spanish and music teachers have worked together with faculty members and parents of Hispanic descent to produce this interactive event for the students.
Las Posadas is the telling in music of the part of the Christmas story where Joseph and Mary are searching for lodging in Bethlehem before the birth of the Christ child. Through a series of back and forth verses, the couple asks for lodging at several places from which they are turned away. At the final stop, the innkeeper recognizes the couple and offers them shelter in the inn’s manger.
