St. Mary’s Parish Mission: Encountering Jesus Christ Today May 6, 13, 20 and 27: 7:30-9:00 p.m.
In 2008, Pope Benedict XVI challenged any complacency we might have about our faith. He observed, “We are only Christians if we encounter Christ. …We can touch Christ’s Heart and feel him touching ours. Only in this personal relationship with Christ, only in this encounter with the Risen One do we truly become Christians.”
What does it mean to “encounter” Jesus? How might we have this encounter today? What might happen to us as a consequence? These are questions we can ponder together in our Parish Mission. The mission will be held from 7:30 – 9 p.m. on each of the Tuesday evenings of May. Fr. Michael Fones, OP, our mission preacher, will draw upon the Sunday Gospels and other scripture passages, as well as personal experience to offer some practical suggestions that may dispose us to the encounter with Jesus Christ.
Fr. Michael Fones, OP, is a member of the Dominican Order. He completed his M.S. at Stanford University. After ordination in 1992, he served in campus ministries for twelve years, then as co-Director of the Catherine of Siena Institute. For the last two years, he has served as the formation director for the Western Dominican Province and oversees the training of Dominican friars preparing for ministry.
